The Pittsburgh Chapter has a mandate to sponsor ongoing Continuing Education Seminars for the Society of Nuclear Medicine. Both local and national speakers present programs to help further our goal of bringing great strength to the local medical and nuclear medicine community.

Course Description
The field of Molecular Imaging / Nuclear Medicine is undergoing a revolution due to technological, pharmacological, social and professional advances.

The goal of this workshop is to provide an update of factors and trends currently affecting the practice of nuclear medicine.

Subjects covered will include:

The benefits of Cardiac PET over SPECT: diagnostic accuracy, reduced rad exposure, flow measurements, efficiency, prognostic value, Imaging with Rb-82 (protocols, acquisition 2D versus 3D, dosing, etc.)

History of Radiation and Natural & Man-Made Background Sources of Radiation Exposure Limits & Regulations Detection of Radiation Safe Practices with Radiation Biological Effects of Radiation exposure.

Review of GI bleeding and Meckel’s sign and symptoms. Progenics develops innovative medicines and other technologies to target and treat cancer, including:
1) therapeutic agents designed to treat cancer (AZEDRA®, PSMA TTC and 1095)
2) PSMA-targeted imaging agents for prostate cancer. Initial Experience imaging using (fluciclovine F 18) injection is indicated for (PET) imaging in men with suspected prostate cancer recurrence based on elevated blood prostate specific antigen (PSA) levels following prior treatment.

Define cardiac amyloidosis, including specific types. Identify barriers to diagnosis. Outline the methods available for diagnosing cardiac amyloidosis

This workshop is known to foster opportunities for professional development and provide an open forum for the free-exchange of ideas with your professional peers.

Who Should Attend?
This course is designed for technologists, physicians and students in the field of Molecular Imaging / Nuclear Medicine and other healthcare professionals who wish to enhance their knowledge of current and future market trends. All participants with basic and/or advanced knowledge of nuclear medicine will benefit from this program.

The policy for recognition of continuing education evaluation mechanism mandates verification of attendance. The attendees must be present in the meeting room during the entire lecture to receive the verification stamp at the end of each presentation. All individual credit(s) will be awarded at the completion of the symposium and verification of attendance has been completed.
